boalt.org: a Boalt student group working for the public interest in technology law

project::BOINC team(s)

Join boalt.org's BOINC team(s)!

Distributed Computing projects can put your computer's idle time to more productive use furthering scientific research that may lead to discoveries in protein folding or all manner of other scientific geekery. You can even search for aliens. boalt.org and its members have put their computers to work on the projects below, which are enabled by an open source distributed computing platform developed here at Berkeley, called the Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing (BOINC).

boalt.org has teams working on the following projects:

boaltdotorg SETI@home team stats SETI@home: search for a message from ET in radio signals from the Aricebo telescope.

boaltdotorg Rosetta@home team stats Rosetta@home: protein folding, design and docking. (May help cure human diseases.)

boaltdotorg Einstein@home team stats Einstein@home: search for spinning neutron stars (i.e., pulsars) using data from gravitational wave detectors.

boaltdotorg LHC@home team stats LHC@home: Help design the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), a particle accelerator being built at CERN.

boaltdotorg Predictor@home team stats Predictor@home: predict protein structure from protein sequence. (May help cure human diseases.)

boaltdotorg SZTAKI Desktop Grid team stats SZTAKI Desktop Grid: find all the generalized binary number systems up to dimension 11. (Math)

boaltdotorg ClimatePrediction.Net team stats ClimatePrediction.Net: produce a forecast of the climate in the 21st century. (Requires a lot of time even on fast machines.)

boaltdotorg μFluids@home team stats μFluids@home: simulation of two-phase fluid behavior in microgravity and microfluidics problems.

boaltdotorg PrimeGrid team stats PrimeGrid: PrimeGrid is factoring for the RSA Factoring Challenge, and also testing PerlBOINC. PerlBOINC is an attmept to implement BOINC in the Perl programming language.

boaltdotorg SIMAP team stats SIMAP: Similarity of Matrix Proteins: Calculate similarity of protein sequences stored in free database for bioinformatics and computational biology researchers.

boaltdotorg QMC@Home team stats Quantum Monte Carlo At Home: Predict the structure and reactivity of molecules using the QMC method of Quantum Chemistry.

boaltdotorg WCG office computers stats World Community Grid: WCG is a BOINC-like application that allows participants to work on multiple projects, such as FightAIDS@home and the Human Proteome Folding Project.

You can put your computers to work too and join our team(s).
Watch our statistics skyrocket by following the instructions below.

If you have never used BOINC, there are two ways to join our team(s).
(If you are already a BOINC user, just follow step 3 of Option 1.)

Option 1: Probably the easier route, just three easy steps!

1. Download the BOINC client for your platform. Downloads are provided for Windows, Mac, GNU/Linux, and Solaris/SPARC, or you can build from source.

2. Run the BOINC manager and for each project enter the web address of the project, create a new account (for each project) using your email address and choosing a password.

The project web addresses to enter in the BOINC manager are:

SETI@home: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ System Requirements Rules and Policies
Rosetta@home: http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/ System Requirements License Agreement
Einstein@home: http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/ System Requirements Rules and Policies
LHC@home: http://lhcathome.cern.ch/ System Requirements Rules and Policies
Predictor@home: http://predictor.scripps.edu/ None Specified Rules and Policies
SZTAKI Desktop Grid: http://szdg.lpds.sztaki.hu/szdg None Specified Rules and Policies
ClimatePrediction.Net: http://www.climateprediction.net/ System Requirements License Agreement
μFluids@home: http://www.ufluids.net/ Windows Only for now Rules and Policies
PrimeGrid: http://www.primegrid.com/ Windows Only for now Rules and Policies
SIMAP: http://boinc.bio.wzw.tum.de/boincsimap/ System Requirements Rules and Policies
QMC@home: http://qah.uni-muenster.de/ None Specified Rules and Policies
World Community Grid: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ System Requirements License Agreement

3. Then for each project, join the team called 'boaltdotorg' using these links:
You are now using your computer's idle time to further scientific research and to help the boaltdotorg team(s)!

Option 2: Setup an account that is automatically linked to our team!

1. Use the following links to setup accounts with each project that are automatically linked to the 'boaltdotorg' team.
2. All projects will email you an account key. Keep those safe. Predictor@home and ClimatePrediction.Net will require you to enter the account key to complete account creation. For those two, you should also setup a password that you can remember, once account creation is complete.

3. Download the BOINC client for your platform. Downloads are provided for Windows, Mac, GNU/Linux, and Solaris/SPARC, or you can build from source.

4. Run the BOINC manager and for each project enter the web address of the project, click use an existing account, and then enter your email address and your account password.

The project web addresses to enter in the BOINC manager are:

SETI@home: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ System Requirements Rules and Policies
Rosetta@home: http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/ System Requirements License Agreement
Einstein@home: http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/ System Requirements Rules and Policies

QMC@home: http://qah.uni-muenster.de/ None Specified Rules and Policies
World Community Grid: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ System Requirements License Agreement

You are now using your computer's idle time to further scientific research and to help the boaltdotorg team(s)!
